ToolBio’s proprietary ‘EZ tag’ platform is based on unique behavior of endogenous calcium-storage protein in cells. EZ tag undergoes oligomerization and polymerization with increasing calcium ion concentrations (see figure below). When a protein or peptide of interest is fused to EZ tag, the resulting fusion protein is expressed highly with enhanced solubility and then is facilely purified simply using calcium ion-mediated precipitation method without need of the expensive affinity column chromatography. Ultimately, EZ tag platform enables production of biologics such as proteins and peptides in much greater yield and larger quantity than conventional other tag platforms. Moreover, EZ tag platform is also enabling production of difficult-to-produce proteins and large-sized proteins.
